How well does liquid eyeliner work with eyeshadow?

Sadies is tomorrow and I'm still not sure whether to use liquid eyeliner or pencil eyeliner with my eyeshadow. I've never tried liquid on eyeshadow before, and I want to know how well it works. It seems to be flawless and never smears when I wear just it (without eyeshadow or anything). Can anyone give me feedback on how well liquid eyeliner works with eyeshadow? Thanks! :)
