Can somebody suggest some nice english songs?

i want to listen to songs like only hope(walk to remember),hero, somebody's me... soft songs where words n singing are more pronounced than the music... i don like songs with heavy drum beats.. nor do i know to appreciate instrumentals... things like beethoven and mozart go over my head...
