Why can't parents be more encouraging to new parents to-be?

My husband and I are expecting our first on Christmas Day (or close to anyway). We understand that being a parent is hard work but everyone around us is acting like we aren't prepared and we aren't ready. We own our own home & our own car (fully payed off) We are both taking a year off to take care of baby. We are not party people, we don't travel or spend tons of money on junk. We're both homebodies and have made plans to even put meals together for when the baby comes. I'll be feeding but i'll also be pumping milk so dad & I can take turns at night times. As far as I'm concerned we are more than prepared for the financial, emotional and other aspects of being parents. I have faith in myself & my husband so why does it seem like other parents are trying to undermine that?
